They are an integral part of the Maclean experience and we are committed to providing them with the support and resources they need to succeed.
We care about our people. While we work hard to provide a safe and healthy environment for our clients to thrive in, we also prioritise taking care of our workers' well-being. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that individuals can flourish in a well-maintained environment.
What kind of housing does maclean provide to our foreign workers?
We provide clean, comfortable and safe housing for our workers. In addition to that, we ensure they have access to food, medical care and transportation services where needed. We ensure proper waste disposal and high levels of cleanliness are maintained by ensuring plenty of light, ventilation, and enough space for each worker to feel at ease. All housing units meet the legal requirements for safety, including secure electricity, safe exits and fire extinguishers.
We make sure houses are free from any pests that may cause health risks or discomfort to our workers by conducting monthly pest control measures. Our goal is to provide a safe and comfortable living environment for our workers.
How does maclean promote overall well-being among workers?
We have always believed in the importance of nurturing people. Ultimately, we want our employees to be happy and healthy. For us, this begins with having a thorough hiring process in place. We work with reputable recruitment agents to ensure all employees are treated fairly and not subjected to any unfair treatment.
We provide a clear employment agreement that outlines their rights, responsibilities, and the terms of employment, manage workers' arrivals, conduct trainings and have a buddy system for new employees to help them adjust to local culture. We are dedicated to building a caring and inclusive workplace, where employees feel valued, respected, and part of a strong community.
What are Maclean's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) practices?
Trust and respect are two of our core values and are engrained in our corporate DNA. We aim to create a workplace where everyone feels respected and included. We don't tolerate any discrimination and we value every employee. We consistently encourage open communication and provide equal opportunities for all employees to share their ideas.
By fostering a culture of trust, respect, and inclusiveness, we aim to empower all employees, regardless of their background to work together to achieve our shared goal to protect health.
How do we support our crew in case of accidents, emergencies or unexpected events?
We are committed to being there for our workers and providing them with support and care, even when the situation is not work-related.
We go the extra mile to either pay for treatments where feasible and/or find resources that can provide the best care for incidents that our workers could unfortunately find themselves in, such as getting diagnosed with cancer, stroke, and other health issues. We understand that being away from home and their families can be challenging, which is why we prioritize their well-being and offer assistance whenever possible. We believe that going beyond the responsibility of an employer to support our workers during difficult times is not only the right thing to do, but it also reflects our values as a company.
What measures do we take to ensure the safety of our workers on-site?
Accidents, health scares and emergencies impact anyone, at any time. As such, we are committed to providing support and care for our workers in such situations.
In efforts to avoid incidents, our Training, Safety and Audit (TSA) Department regularly conducts Safety and Service Audits on-site to ensure that our services meet standards and comply with safety regulations. These audits are performed by qualified teams and help identify any areas for improvement. If any problems are detected, we take corrective and preventive actions.
We work towards mitigating these hazards using the Hierarchy of Controls and provide ongoing occupational health and safety training to our workers. We pay close attention to care for the well-being of pregnant crew members and assign lighter, safer tasks as well as providing relief crew to help out.
How does maclean ensure compliance with the legal compensation benefits in Malaysia?
We prioritize the fair treatment of all employees by adhering to the legal requirements for working hours, minimum wage, and mandated benefits in compliance to Employment Act 1955, Amendment 2022.
To further promote transparency and understanding, we provide each worker with a detailed breakdown of their earnings and allowances for the month on their salary slips. Furthermore, we translate each item listed on our employees' payslips to their respective native languages for their comprehension.
Our HR team and dedicated managers are well-versed in these regulations and ensure that every worker is treated equitably and receives the compensation they deserve.
