With the news of our nation battling thousands upon thousands of Covid-19 cases on a daily basis, we often see and hear about frontliners risking their lives to keep us safe. Despite being constantly exposed to hazardous situations and coming in close contact with those ill with the coronavirus, our frontliners are steadfast and unwavering when it comes to battling the pandemic. While healthcare professionals, uniformed bodies such as our police force and delivery riders are giving their all in their respective fields, one category of frontliners that are often forgotten, but have been fearlessly putting themselves on the line this entire time are the indispensable cleaning crews.
Cleaning Crews - The Unsung Heroes
Cleaning crews are considered our first line of defence because they play an important role in keeping hospitals, supermarkets, factories, schools and offices safe, clean and sanitized for our wellbeing. These cleaning service providers work relentlessly to minimise the possible transmission of viruses through proper cleaning and sanitisation processes.
At this time when the cases are at an alarming rate, people will find comfort in knowing that places with frequently exposed common touch points such as escalators, door handles and lifts are sanitised and cleaned regularly. Indeed, they carry huge responsibilities in protecting the public and truly are our unsung heroes.
Taking Care of Our People
We are grateful for our employees who have had to pivot quickly to adapt to the situation and positively embraced the different work arrangements. The well-being of our employees is important to us and we practice respect and transparency as part of our values. Our dedicated Business Continuity Plan (BCP) includes a standard operating procedure for the pandemic that we adhere to at all times. We also ensure that the provision of PPEs, face masks and shields and hand sanitizers for our crew are always adequate.
One of the main concerns of maclean’s frontliners are is the risk associated with potentially exposing themselves to the virus when carrying out their duties. As a responsible business, we try our best to alleviate their fears by practicing safety routines that include conducting monthly PCR tests for our project teams, having a detailed Covid-19 reporting structure and ensuring that all our foreign service crew are registered under PERKESO’s Program Saringan Prihatin so that they too are tested.
Doing Our Part - Stay Safe, Stay Home
At this crucial time, it is imperative that everyone plays their part in the effort to contain the Covid-19 virus from spreading. Emran, our safety officer, expressed his wish that all Malaysians comply with the SOPs set out by our government and help the frontliners by practicing self-discipline and staying at home to protect ourselves and our loved ones. Let us all play our role so that we may come out victorious in the war against this invisible enemy.
The Covid-19 situation has not been easy for most businesses. maclean understands that the best value we can give to our clients is through our greatest asset – our people, who are heroes in their own right. These forgotten frontliners continuously provide clients with dedicated service, while always advancing and innovating methods and processes to increase effectiveness and efficiency in safety and health. We owe it to these selfless individuals who continue contributing to the rakyat despite the risks.
